Go Wii with Wii Music

If Guitar Hero or Rock Band are too complex for your musical taste, Wii Music might be your cup of tea. This music video game for the Wii that simulates playing musical instruments using the Wii Remote and the Wii Balance Board. The game is part of Nintendo's Wii Series and Touch! Generations series of games. The Wii Music player starts by using both motions and button presses on the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to control a six-member Mii band. Unlike other music games, Wii Music does not require the player to press certain buttons at certain times but only requires the player to move the Wii Remote and Nunchuk like they were playing the instruments. Positives * Easy to learn. * Great for beginners. * All you need is at least one full Wii remote and nunchuck set. Negatives * Limited music selection from public domain. * Few popular music choices. * Brass and string instruments sound average at best. The Bottom Line Wii Music is a good starter kit before going toward the other “expensive” music games. The base retail price is about $50.

Wii-ing and Skiing with We Ski

If you are Wii gamer who likes to execute perfect wedge stops, shred the slaloms, and negotiate moguls with ease, you need a copy of We Ski. We Ski offers a dozen lengthy runs packed with jumps, races, and more -- with runs for beginner and intermediate skiers, and black diamonds for advanced skiers, plus a kaleidoscope of colorful fireworks in the night sky when you're brave enough to night ski. You can also ski with your Mii or your own customized character. The real "gameplay" is in Freestyle mode, where you are taken to a ski resort for your vacation. In Freestyle, you are given star points, which is a way to show how far you've advanced through the game. You gain points by interacting with other skiers on the slope and doing what they ask. More star points open more outfits and options for your character. You can also choose to play alone or with friends. The Bottom Line The graphics are great and lifelike. If you are a ski newbie, this game is a good start. We Ski looks fairly authentic and makes you feel like you're skiing down hill at a rapid pace. What You Need A Wii™ system, Wii ...

Little Big Planet Is a Creativity Gem

Little Big Planet (LBP) -- a PlayStation 3 exclusive game -- revolves around the player's control of small avatars, known as Sackboys. When you see their appearance, you will understand. The game features a set of pre-built levels for players to explore, but game's customizable nature is where it really shines: from altering the player's character and personal space, to building entirely new objects and levels, and then sharing and playing them online as part of the Little Big Planet community. The LBP experience begins with players learning about their character's powers to interact physically with the environment. The players learn by exploring places, collecting creative resources and solving puzzles. This game has no real creativity constraints. If you see something, you can enhance it. If you can't see it, you can invent it. And you can also make your world as revealing or as private to outsiders as you'd like. Positives Developing creativity from a non-competitive setting is a great plus. Negatives It's not available on all platforms. The Bottom line This PlayStation exclusive app is unbearably cute and loaded with fun. If you want your kids to develop a positive constructive foundation of creativity, Little Big Planet is the tool that ...
