Wii-ing and Skiing with We Ski

If you are Wii gamer who likes to execute perfect wedge stops, shred the slaloms, and negotiate moguls with ease, you need a copy of We Ski. We Ski offers a dozen lengthy runs packed with jumps, races, and more -- with runs for beginner and intermediate skiers, and black diamonds for advanced skiers, plus a kaleidoscope of colorful fireworks in the night sky when you're brave enough to night ski. You can also ski with your Mii or your own customized character. The real "gameplay" is in Freestyle mode, where you are taken to a ski resort for your vacation. In Freestyle, you are given star points, which is a way to show how far you've advanced through the game. You gain points by interacting with other skiers on the slope and doing what they ask. More star points open more outfits and options for your character. You can also choose to play alone or with friends. The Bottom Line The graphics are great and lifelike. If you are a ski newbie, this game is a good start. We Ski looks fairly authentic and makes you feel like you're skiing down hill at a rapid pace. What You Need A Wii™ system, Wii ...

Step 1 to Applying Sunzi AoW Principles to Gaming

Earlier, I wrote an article on "Using Sunzi's Art of War Principles in Gaming." The following article is a continuous of it. Regardless of people tendency to improvise, I prefer to prepare and plan before I play. With some games, I play just to get a "feel" of my settings before I plan. Skilled strategists know that the success or failure of any strategic venture is dependent on the following: 1. Estimate the big picture 2. Build a plan that is based on the estimates 3. Execute the plan 4. Change strategically. The skilled strategist assesses the settings in order to get the big picture. With the big picture, one gets the directions and connections from beginning to the end. Goals fail because of poor details and poor estimates of the big picture. If the strategic estimates are incorrect, then the goal development and the project plan are wrong. In most cases, the execution would be flawed. The goal of the Sunzi's book is focused on positioning oneself in a state of invincibility before conquering the opposition. "The good fighters of old first put themselves beyond the possibility of defeat, and then ...

Using Sunzi’s Art of War Principles in Gaming

As a gamer, I play almost anything that is competition‑driven. Because of my mindset, I usually plan before I play. Regardless of the grand situation, I stick with the grand plan. My grand plan usually includes the big picture, a listing of negative and positive circumstances, anticipated opportunities, a listing of orthodox and unorthodox tactics, and circumstances for adjusting strategically. Much of my strategic thinking originates from my use of Sunzi (Sun Tzu) Art of War (and other strategy classics) principles in gaming and project management. The general key to using the Sunzi principles is knowing how to assess your opposition, your grand settings and yourself. That is a separate process by itself. In the future, I will cover the basics for applying Sunzi’s strategy principles in video gaming, especially in multi‑player settings.

Hottest Gaming Laptop Evah!!

We'll just come right out and say the Alienware m17x is about as powerful as a laptop gets, at least if it's as tricked-out as our $6,000-plus review unit was. More modest builds are available for as little as $1,999, but at that level, you get a fairly yawn-inducing set of mid-range components, dressed up in a very attractive shell. The Alienware really shines when packed out with dual Nvidia GeForce 9800 GPUs and an Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 processor. Of course, few people, even serious gamers, need that much horsepower, but as a display of conspicuous consumption, it's hard to beat, with an illuminated keyboard, imposing new black-slab aesthetic, and a Blu-ray drive.
